Press Release Tree of Light 2016 - issue October 24

Keswick Rotary Club is preparing for a sixth year of its highly successful Tree of Light event this Christmas. The tree is situated near the Cenotaph on Penrith Road and is illuminated with over 6000 lights to provide a warm welcome to Keswick right over the Christmas period.

The Tree of Light raises funds for charity by inviting local people and visitors alike to purchase a light for a celebration - of an achievement, a birth perhaps, a big event or a loved one.

You can nominate your celebration by completing a short application either online at   www.lakedistricttreeoflight.org.uk or by leaflet available from:
  • selected retail outlets around Keswick
  • our market stall outside Holland & Barrett on Thursday November 17th
  • our stand in Booths store on November 25th and 26th and December 9th and 10th
Your celebration event will be highlighted in the Book of Celebration on the Tree of Light website, on a display board adjacent to the Tree of Light and in local newspapers, subject to your wishes.

Money raised this year will be donated to the Cumbria Air Ambulance which has a proud record of saving lives across the region – but relies entirely on public donations.  Local youth charities will also benefit.

The illumination of the Tree of Light forms part of the Keswick’s Christmas Lighting Festivities and this year will take place on Friday November 18th in the Market Square at 6.30pm, followed by the Town Christmas Lights switch-on at 7pm.   The illuminations will include the Tree of Light at the Cenotaph as well as the symbiotic tree in the centre of the Market Square.

It will be accompanied by several hours of entertainment and stalls in the Market Square which we expect to attract a large number looking to enjoy the festivities.  This year there will be a unique parade of Light Sculptures sponsored by local organisations and working with local school children.

The Tree of Light provides a very special opportunity for a personal celebration or memory - and has helped to raise over £25,000 for local and national charities over the past 5 years.    We would like to thank all contributors for their support.
