Rotary Club of Keswick’s

 Lake District Year’s Tree of Light

 and Town Christmas Lighting Ceremonies


This year the lighting of the Lake District Tree of Light, which isthe magnificent beech tree that stands behind the Cenotaph at the junction of Station Street and Penrith Road , will take place  within the Market Square at 7.00pm on Friday 8th November 2013 as part of the town’s Christmas Lights event. How? By projecting the illumination of the Tree as part of a ‘Lumiere Show’. 

 The Lumiere Show will run continuously from 4.00pm until 7.00 on 8th November as part of the town’s Christmas Lights Event and will promote Keswick`s diverse attractions, festivals and activities available to enjoy here. Also featured will be some of the local businesses that support the Lake District Tree of Light and Keswick Rotary Club will depict some of the work that it supports both locally and internationally.

 Keswick Rotary Club will also have a stand in the Market Square from 1.00pm to 8.00pm where you will have the opportunity to buy glow sticks and other novelty lights. There will also be a Rotarian on hand to accept donations to the Lake District Tree of Light and to answer any questions about Rotary and how you can join Keswick Rotary Club.

 The day will be packed with events and as well as the Lumiere Show there will be a Christmas Food and Food Fayre, Santa’s Workshop and performances from local groups and bands including St Herbert’s Primary School and Keswick School Jazz Band.

 Also at 6.30pm New Arts North  ‘Shine Procession’ of Light Sculptures will process through the town and market square.

 Promoted by the Rotary Club of Keswick, the Lake District Tree of Light will again be illuminated with over 5,000 white lights over the Christmas season.  John Howell, President of Keswick Rotary Club said ‘Last year, the tree proved to be extremely successful and raised over £5,000 for local charities.  This year we have chosen Macmillan Cancer Support as the main charity to benefit as it undertakes such wonderful work in our local community.  Donations will also be made to Keswick Junior Cricket Club, Keswick Junior Football Club and other local charities and organizations’.
